Pimpin Siswa is a must for all first years students to participate. All first year students have to attend a three days 2 nights camp in nearby states like Kedah, Perak etc. And I got "thrown" to Kem Palas, Yan, Kedah supposedly one of the best camp.
First, they gave a talk on what to bring and not to as well as the meeting point and time etc which lasted till after midnight. Then we had to get our FREE bag pack, two shirts as well as a cap from our respective stations depending on what camp one get. Actually thought I was able to sleep on the way but it seemed that it is an unspoken rule to not sleep during the journey. We played this game where we have to introduce ourselves as well as remember the names of the people before you. Luckily I sat somewhere in the middle and only required to remember about 15 names or so. Those that could not remember have to face the wrath of Abang Hajar. His punishments always revolve around the keyword "nenek kebayan", "gila", "cari anak", "patah _____" etc
So tired zzzzzz |
We arrived at our destination at last. They let us have lunch first which was quite delicious and we had to wash our cutleries in the river. Quite a new experience for me as I was more afraid of slipping into the river than whether the water is clean or not. Then comes the moment of separation with our precious belongings after we got divided into our group and the pilihan raya ended. When the time to set up our tent arrived, I was hoping that my other group members had experience with camping as I am a newbie at this. But thank god the guys were helpful and willing to help us,"sort of helpless" girls. Then, it was resting time and almost all went to the river to bathe. I only rinse my limbs XD since I do not have like batik or anything. They had some ice-breaking game at night. The one that left quite an impact on me is the "Orchestra" game. During the second part of the game where they blindfolded us and led us all over with us pretending to lead our own orchestra while the other half of the camp are watching. It was actually suppose to teach us to break out of our shell when we are in our own world but with me knowing what they are doing to me and people watching just defeated the whole purpose.
My impression of camping in a positive way XD |
When it was finally our sleeping time, I could not sleep. Was rolling around for what seems like hours when they sound the siren waking us up for our night walk which was hiking the hill or was it a mountain @.@ Just when we were getting started, it started pouring. It was so dark and slippery and we had to rely mainly on our sense of touch with the rope on our right and on the person in front of you. There were moments when I thought I was going to slip but I held my grip on the guy in front of me. I hope I did not pull his shirt too hard now that I think about it >< They cut the journey short since it was too dangerous to continue hiking. Went to sleep and finally got to sleep when it started raining and I felt raindrops on my face. Another siren sounded and the girls have to sleep in the "surau" while the guys in the hall. I just slept sitting while hugging my bag before another day begins.
The second day begun with games that test your teamwork as well as your mind. I have to say our group did quite well almost getting first but then again overall our kompeni won *hip hip hurray!!!* Then it was the survival cooking test. They needed a non-Muslim girl to catch the chicken and luckily there was a brave soul in my group. We decided to cook chicken fried with kunyit as well as fried vegetables after bartering with the other groups. The plan worked until we had difficulty starting a fire. When we finally managed to control the fire we successfully fried our vege but the fire was not big enough to fry the chicken. Just when our fire were starting to get hot, it had to rain. We had no choice but to head back to camp to cook. At first, I thought we were lucky to be able to use the gas stove in the canteen but nooooo they asked us to use charcoal instead. And here comes another fire problem. We were nearly done when we found out we have only 15 minutes to eat, present to the judge and clean up. As for the day, my lunch was two small pieces of chicken.
How I wish our fire was like this >.< |
After lunch, we had group discussion work since we had to perform that night depending on the picture we get. Before dinner, there was supposed to be another physical training which involves the obstacle activities but I had to have high fever hence me being exempted from participating. It was the one activity I was looking forward to since I had done it in NS and it was fun but it wasn't my luck. I was brought to the "medic room" to rest when I heard people screaming or shall I say shrieking only to see them roll in the mud on the field. And *splash* into the river they go. After everybody freshen up and clear of any mud it was time for the performance. Our group performance was the shortest among all as we did a last minute changes minutes before performing. Next it was zzzzz time but not before a special bbq feast meant for us XD
The next day, we have to clear our camping area and undergo another group discussion activity before having lunch and DEPART back home!!!!
At least my home sweet home for the next four years <3 |
